Inuksuk, Dempster Highway north of Eagle Plains, Yukon
An inuksuk is a cairn built by the Inuit to mark travel routes, camps, fishing places or hunting grounds. They vary in shape and size, the simplest type is a single stone positioned in an upright manner. Today they often are built of rocks stacked in the shape of a human or a cross. We found this small inuksuk along the Dempster Hwy on our way to Inuvik. If it was erected by the people living in this area or by some tourist just passing by ... who knows?
